Pretty Little Lawyer is an HBCU-rooted legal pipeline organization helping aspiring lawyers move from interest to informed action.
Our mission is to expand access to legal education and the legal profession for historically underserved students, with an intentional focus on students attending HBCUs throughout the South. Through early exposure, mentorship, practical resources, financial assistance, and wellness-centered programming, we remove barriers and create pathways for aspiring lawyers to enter the profession prepared, supported, and empowered.
We envision a legal profession in which students can see themselves represented, understand the path ahead, access meaningful support, and enter the profession prepared to lead.
Talent is everywhere, but access to information, opportunity, financial resources, and professional networks is not. Many aspiring lawyers begin their journeys without knowing a lawyer, understanding the admissions process, or having access to the relationships and resources that make the path easier to navigate. Pretty Little Lawyer exists to help close those gaps.
Pretty Little Lawyer began with a belief: students should not have to navigate the path to law alone. Founded by a Jackson State University alumna and attorney, PLL grew from an idea into a community-centered initiative committed to expanding opportunity and strengthening the pipeline into the legal profession. What began as a vision is now becoming a network of students, legal professionals, institutions, and partners working together to create a more equitable future.
Ebonee Swilley is the founder of Pretty Little Lawyer and a Jackson State University alumna committed to expanding access to the legal profession for students from historically underserved communities. As an attorney and the founder of Acuity Law Group, she has built a career advising businesses, creatives, entrepreneurs, and organizations while remaining deeply connected to the communities and institutions that shaped her own journey.
Her experience moving from Mississippi and Jackson State University into the legal profession informs PLL’s approach: representation matters, but students also need information, financial support, relationships, and real opportunities. Through Pretty Little Lawyer, Ebonee is building the kind of pathway that helps aspiring lawyers understand what is possible and gives them practical support to pursue it.

PLL’s inaugural programming is strengthened by Jackson State University and Anderson Admissions Academy. Jackson State University connects PLL with students and the HBCU community. Anderson Admissions Academy contributes specialized law-school admissions insight and practical application guidance. Future institutional partnerships will expand this model to additional HBCUs while preserving programming quality and local relationships.
